Η μονάδα διαχείρισης πτηνών με την χρήση αρπακτικών του ΓΕΑ δημιουργήθηκε το 1998 από τον Ταξίαρχο Αντωνίου Δημήτριο (Και Μέντορας του ΣΕΙ). Λειτουργεί για 25 συναπτά έτη, με έμπειρους πλέον εκπαιδευτές και με εντυπωσιακά αποτελέσματα στον έλεγχο των πτηνών που δημιουργούν πρόβλημα στους αεροδιαδρόμους κατά την προσγείωση και απογείωση των αεροσκαφών, γλιτώνοντας εκατομμύρια ευρώ σε υλικά αλλά και ανθρώπινες ζωές.
