Λίγο πριν από την κατάρρευση βρίσκονται οι δασικές υπηρεσίες, σύμφωνα με την Πανελλήνια Ενωση Δασολόγων του Δημοσίου (ΠΕΔΔΥ). Οπως επισημαίνει, οι εργαζόμενοι στα δασαρχεία των πυρόπληκτων περιοχών είναι ελάχιστοι και «δίνουν αγώνα με αυταπάρνηση και ελάχιστα μέσα».
«Η σύγχρονη και αποτελεσματική λειτουργία των δασικών υπηρεσιών είναι απαραίτητη προϋπόθεση για την εφαρμογή σε επιχειρησιακό επίπεδο πιο αποτελεσματικών προγραμμάτων πρόληψης και καταστολής των δασικών πυρκαγιών και η ανάγκη αυτή προϋποθέτει την πλήρη αναθεώρηση των ρυθμίσεων για την πρόληψη των δασικών πυρκαγιών του νόμου 2612/1998, που εκ του αποτελέσματος απέτυχε», αναφέρει η ΠΕΔΔΥ.
«Ζητάμε από την κυβέρνηση να αξιολογήσει τα προβλήματα επιχειρησιακού σχεδιασμού και κυρίως να ολοκληρώσει τις διαδικασίες αναδιοργάνωσης των δασικών υπηρεσιών και να προσλάβει επιτέλους ειδικούς επιστήμονες, που βρίσκονται σε εκκρεμότητα εδώ και τέσσερα χρόνια, αλλά και δασοφύλακες, δεδομένου ότι η τραγική υποστελέχωση σε όλα τα επίπεδα υποστήριξης της λειτουργίας της θα οδηγήσει σε κατάρρευση τις δασικές υπηρεσίες», καταλήγει η ΠΕΔΔΥ.
