Μετά από τη συνεδρία της Επιστημονικής Επιτροπής Περιβάλλοντος, μέλος της οποίας είναι και η ΚΟΚ & ΔΑΖ, έχει εγκριθεί ΟΜΟΦΩΝΑ το αίτημα του Προϊσταμένου της υπηρεσίας Θήρας και Πανίδας για συνέχιση της κατά παρέκκλισης άδειας κυνηγίου του φοινικοπερίστερου (Streptopelia senegalenis).
Η θήρευσή του θα επιτρέπεται κατά την καλοκαιρινή άδεια κυνηγίου, με αύξηση μάλιστα στο αριθμό του στις 30.000 άτομα, με σκοπό τον έλεγχο του πληθυσμού του συγκεκριμένου είδους. Ακόμα μία μεγάλη επιτυχία της Κυπριακής Ομοσπονδίας, η οποία σε συνεννόηση με την Υπηρεσία Θήρας και Πανίδας πέτυχε το ζητούμενο, την διατήρηση του νέου αυτού θηρεύσιμου είδους.
