Μετά την τελευταία τρομοκρατική επίθεση στις ΗΠΑ, ξέσπασαν οι διάφοροι τύποι που είναι κατά του δικαιώματος της οπλοφορίας. Τόσο στις ΗΠΑ όσο και στην Ελλάδα, όπου δημιουργείται μια ψευδής εικόνα, η οποία λειτουργεί αποτρεπτικά ως προς την έναρξη ενός σοβαρού λόγου για την οπλοκατοχή στην χώρα μας.
Αξίζει όμως να ρίξουμε μια ματιά σε κάποια… στεγνά, αριθμητικά στοιχεία για το πόσο… κακά είναι τα όπλα. Στοιχεία τα οποία αφορούν τις ΗΠΑ, που είναι η πιο ελεύθερη χώρα στον κόσμο σε θέματα όπλων.
Κάθε χρόνο στις ΗΠΑ υπάρχουν 30.000 θανάτοι που σχετίζονται με όπλα. Αυτό το νούμερο δεν αμφισβητείται. Ο συνολικός πληθυσμός των ΗΠΑ είναι 324,059,091. Αυτό σημαίνει ότι συνολικά κάθε χρόνο πεθαίνει – από αίτιο που έχει σχέση με τα όπλα – το 0. 000000925% του πληθυσμού.
Αυτό όμως που έχει ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον είναι το να αναλύσουμε ακόμη και αυτό τον αριθμό.
-Το 65% των θανάτων είναι αυτοκτονίες, που κανείς φυσικά νόμος δεν μπορεί να εμποδίσει.
-Το 15% είναι στην διάρκεια της εφαρμογής του νόμου, από την αστυνομία.
– Το 17% είναι λόγω εγκληματικής δραστηριότητας, συμμοριών, περιπτώσεων που σχετίζονται με ναρκωτικά και ψυχασθενείς.
-Το 3% είναι ατυχήματα λόγω λανθασμένης πυροδότησης
Έτσι, τεχνικά, η βία που σχετίζεται με όπλα, από τις 30.000 πέφτει στις 5.100. Ακόμη και αυτός ο αριθμός όμως ίσως είναι πολύ μεγάλος. Αξίζει εδώ να κάνουμε μια «τοπική» κατηγοριοποίηση.
-480 δολοφονίες (9,4%) έγιναν στο Σικάγο
-344 δολοφονίες (6,7%) έγιναν στην Βαλτιμόρη
-333 δολοφονίες (6,5%) έγιναν στο Ντητρόιτ
-119 δολοφονίες (2,3%) έγιναν στην Ουάσιγκτον
Συνολικά δηλαδή, το 25% όλων των εγκλημάτων με όπλα συμβαίνουν σε τέσσερεις πόλεις. Τέσσερεις πόλεις με πολύ αυστηρούς νόμους για τα όπλα. Γεγονός που αποδεικνύει ότι η «νομοθεσία» για τα όπλα δεν είναι η ρίζα του προβλήματος.
Έτσι μένουν 3,835 περιπτώσεις σε όλη την υπόλοιπη χώρα, περίπου 75 θανάτους ανά Πολιτεία των ΗΠΑ. Αυτός είναι ένας μέσος όρος που δεν δίνει όλη την αλήθεια. Και αυτό διότι παραδείγματος χάριν η Καλιφόρνια είχε1169 περιστατικά, ενώ η … Αλαμπάμα μόλις ένα.
Ποια από τις δύο πολιτείες έχει πιο αυστηρούς νόμους για τα όπλα; Φυσικά η Καλιφόρνια. Κάτι που αποδεικνύει ότι πολύ λίγη σχέση έχει η αυστηρότητα των νόμων για τα όπλα με το πραγματικό πρόβλημα. Η εγκληματικότητα έχει να κάνει με τους εγκληματίες που κατοικούν σε αυτές τις περιοχές.
Ακόμη και ξεπερνώντας τον αριθμό των 5.100 όμως, αξίζει να κάνουμε μια σύγκριση με άλλες αιτίες θανάτου.
-40.000 πεθαίνουν κάθε χρόνο από τα υπερβολική δόση ναρκωτικών
-36000 πεθαίνουν κάθε χρόνο από την γρίπη.
– 34.000 πεθαίνουν κάθε χρόνο από αυτοκινητιστικά δυστυχήματα.
-200.000 πεθαίνουν κάθε χρόνο από ιατρικά λάθη που θα μπορούσαν να έχουν αποφευχθεί.
